At the working group meeting. A rather long discussion that looked at lapsed hunters. Surveys were mailed out to hunters that did not buy hunting licenses consistently 25-60 years old. 25% said the would definitely purchase a license with a Saturday opener. 33% said they would with Sunday hunting.
Number one reason for lapsing was lack of time to hunt. 80% of respondents are employed full time.
Only got to watch the first 30 minutes so far.

Younger hunter more likely to support both.

12,000 surveys sent out to a percent of lapsed hunters. 2025 returned. Discussion on how many hunters are not consistent license buyers. PGC not sure of answer.

Watched a bit more. Sure seems that quite a few of the board members are still very supportive of the Saturday start. Talking about 500,000 hunters out there on the opener these days. Significant decrease in younger hunters on the opener. Less deer movement due to less people in the woods.

Should be an interesting vote.
We will have Sunday hunting authority in 2020. See how that goes then

Well, I wonder if we have a Saturday opener and that Sunday, if that would lead to more divorces?
Seems like a good reason to keep it as it is. LMBO!

At 55 minute mark, not sure who it is speaking, but their opinion is gains from a Saturday opener will be offset by hunters choosing to hunt other states on that Saturday. He expects minimal overall impact.

Further into the discussion, some of the commissioners are beginning to waffle a bit. One was very pro Saturday opener at the last meeting but is now second guessing his position.
Gonna be an interesting vote. I am more convinced now that it won't pass.

In no way if it is going to change should it be this year. People have vacation already scheduled and days are planned off for Monday as holidays with companies. It will be a pain in the rear for those people.

You need to get a job like that!

12,000 surveys sent out 2025 returned, only 16 percent response 25 percent said they would purchase if Sat. start. That is 506. 506 out of 12,000 is .04 percent.
According to this survey, Mon.start doesn't seem to be as big of a deterrent as some think.

If you plan your vacation at the beginning of the year you now have to change it if you can.

I still believe the Commissioners want to do this. The question is will they have the stomach to actually make this big of a change. You could hear the waffling coming from some of them in the discussion. Some are struggling with it for sure.

Essentially, every time I take off, I lose pay. Think about all the self employed guys that lose pay and always have.

Essentially, every time I take off, I lose pay. Think about all the self employed guys that lose pay and always have. You have the power to schedule your jobs whenever you wish. I do it I know it can be done. I work for someone I have to be there when they tell me too. Im cleaning a furnace at 6 at night this week.
