Is this something official from the PGC or anecdotal localized hunter reports?

Me thinks it's a guess to align a previous "wish" of what would happen

Is this something official from the PGC or anecdotal localized hunter reports? Sounds like factual info from deer prosesseors.

Dont the pgc check in with them? Kinda funny you mention deer processors. Talking to a guy who has a bunch of buddies come out to his place to hunt. One took his buck to a processor Saturday and when he found out they charged 75$, he gave the deer away and he said they won't be using the doe tags unless they can find somebody who wants their deer. I don't blame any casual hunter for giving it up if he does like venison much and doesn't do his own butchering. I wonder how many of them we have lost. A dad and his kid killing a couple deer apiece would get pretty steep for a lot of guys at Christmas time. What do you non-butchers pay in your area?

LOL Yep, one was down 50 percent from last year, another only had 6 instead of 60 to 70. Pretty drastic. The funny part is, for years the PGC used harvest report cards AND Wardens checkin shops to estimate the harvest. Since these numbers are low, now you question the process. As far as only 2 processors, from what I've read on here, only 2 say the turnout was better.

And mine are turning deer away??? Maybe you should contact the news media, that doesn't seem to be the case with these two. Just curious, do you work for the PGC?

I would not pay anywhere near $75 to have a deer processed. The guys who have to take a rifle shot fawn or even an adult deer to a butcher shop might better buy beef and spend their hunting time chasing small game.

I know guys who have their whole deer made into processed sticks and baloney. Over $200

I butcher my own but if I fill any Doe tags I may be tempted to go to a butcher and pay the damage. It's just a lot of work and I have a full time job

Turn out was very low in this area. Still don’t understand why doe tags can’t be filled the first week. We don’t need a low kill around here. Crop damage is bad enough already

Taxidermist friend is on a record pace for deer brought in just for archery. Haven't talked to him yet since regular season started.
My guess, the harvest will be more spread out. People saving vacation days and only hunting the same Saturdays. What I'm doing. Office is closed between holidays though too and I love hunting the late season too so no need to take days off.

If you open the first week, then you end up with an over harvest on the public ground, just to get at a few does on private. That is what is happening in my unit. Northern part is farms, southern is big woods. Big woods is over harvested, farms only allow friends and family, then complain too many deer? Heck, Denny, just north of me 8 miles takes a drive around his block and sees 80 deer. Not even close to the case in my area

It's the same with timber companies who demand a higher doe harvest yet lease there land to deer hunters.

Maybe not overpopulated, but if most of you saw multiple bucks the population must be at least as good as most places in the state.

I showed our trail cam pics to the young man hunting with us, he said, you have a doe problem, you barely have any. And yet again, someone who has never set foot on a property is telling me how many deer I have. SMH.
