Nice thing about the kids getting older. I no longer have to do most of the work. We moved one of our stands in PA and got the other ones setup with safety lines, burlap and put the cushions on. Only thing left to get ready is we have 3 blinds that we will need to spray for wasps and kick out some mice I am sure.
They do grow up fast and while I enjoyed the hell out of my kids when they were small,I'll take these days.I've always said,I wish I could freeze them at 12 years old. They're old enough to do just about anything but young enough that they haven't had many bad influences in their life.My son likes to sleep in during the summer so I text him his daily list when I get to work. It's nice coming home to stuff done that I normally would have had to do.
"Far away" is a relative statement. My son who has 3 boys and one 1YO daughter lives in MO. He has a good job with Ford and his wife is from the area. I doubt if he will ever be back in the Pittsburgh area. OTOH, my oldest daughter just moved back to the area after she has been gone for almost 20 years. It's nice to have her back.
My wife and I make lot's of trips to MI. The 5+ hour drive isn't really that far......but it's still too far. My grandsons have a great relationship with us.....but it ain't the same as if they were one hour away.
I picked up my youngest at the airport this afternoon. He was working at a summer camp on the west coast since May. Get to spend ten days or so with him then drop him off for his second year in college. It's good to have at least one of them back under our roof for a while.
